Three individuals have been charged with felony drug offenses for allegedly selling heroin and other narcotics in Bangor.
The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency recently conducted two separate investigations into drug trafficking in Penobscot and Hancock counties. In the first case, state, federal and local police executed a search warrant on Thursday at a residence on Ohio Street in Bangor after undercover operatives purchased heroin and crack cocaine in the building.
Agents seized approximately 9 grams of heroin with an estimated value of $2,500 as well as $3500 in cash, and other evidence of drug trafficking. The operation was conducted by the Maine DEA, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Bangor Police Department
Peter Spann, 54, was charged with Class A aggravated drug trafficking while his wife, 54-year-old Diane Spann, was charged with Class C possession of heroin. Peter Spann’s charges were elevated to “aggravated” status because the building is located across from a city park that is a designated Drug-Free Safe Zone.
Peter Spann was being held at the Penobscot County jail on $25,000 bail while Diane Spann’s bail was set at $2,000, according to a release from the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Police raided the same building in 2011, resulting in federal drug convictions against several individuals.
In the second drug case, Jeremy Cruz of Bronx, N.Y., was arrested on Wednesday in Bangor after an undercover operation that alleges he was selling heroin in Hancock and Penobscot counties. Cruz, 28, is charged with Class A aggravated drug trafficking because, like with the Spann case, at least one sale reportedly occurred within 1,000 feet of a Drug-Free Safe Zone.
Cruz was being held at the Penobscot County Jail with a $30,000 cash bond. According to Maine State Police, the months-long investigation is part of crackdown on out-of-state drug traffickers selling heroin in Hancock and Penobscot counties.
