
WATERBORO — The Thornton Academy football team topped host Massabesic 46-6 on opening night.
After an opening kickoff return touchdown from Massabesic’s Owen Roberts, the Trojans locked in and quickly regained the momentum and the lead.
Anthony Bracamonte scored on a 10-yard rush in the first, followed by a one-yard rush by Cam Houde to give TA the 12-6 lead.
Quarterback Will Mitchell would later connect on a 20-yard pass to Bracamonte for a score midway through the second quarter. The duo would connect with 2:56 remaining in the first half on a 49-yard pass to give the Trojans the 25-6 lead at the break.

Houde would rush for another score early in the fourth to extend the lead to 32-6, and Julian Bailey-Cottie scored from six yards out less than four minutes later. Mitchell capped off the night with a one-yard rush to set the final to 46-6.
TA will host Deering next Friday while Massabesic travels to South Portland.
BONNY EAGLE 48, SANFORD 0
Defending Class A champion Bonny Eagle kicked off its 2017 season with a 48-0 shutout win over Sanford on Friday night at Cobb Stadium.
Alex Sprague scored twice for the Scots, including on a 45-yard rush. Arlo Pike scored on a 22-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Connor Sirois, while Nick Thorne and Zach Maturo also added scores. Kordell Menard also added two scores on the day for the Scots.
Sanford quarterback Ethan Emard rushed nine times for 48 yard in the loss.
The Spartans will travel to Scarborough next Friday to take on the Red Storm, while Bonny Eagle hosts Windham.
KENNEBUNK 26, GREELY 0
The host Rams opened their season with a 26-0 shutout over Greely.
Kennebunk would take the 6-0 lead in the first quarter on a touchdown by Cam Lovejoy midway through the period. The Rams would double their lead early in the second quarter on a touchdown run by Jake Littlefield. Kennebunk then got a TD on a throw from Tripp Bush to Bryan Hickey. .
The two teams battled in the second half, but the Rams would add one more score on a Zack Sullivan touchdown reception to secure the win. Jake Sullivan also recorded an interception for Kennebunk.
WELLS 46, WINTHROP/MONMOUTH 0
The defending Class C champion Wells Warriors cruised to a 46-0 win over host Winthrop/Monmouth on Friday evening.
Fullback Nolan Potter led the way for the Warriors, racking up four touchdowns and 110 rushing yards. Chad Fitzpatrick would add a touchdown and 105 rushing yards, while Wells also got scores from Matt Tufts and Peyton McKay.
Quarterback Mike Wrigley went 5-for-6 passing and threw for 67 yards.
Wells will host Spruce Mountain next week.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH 28, FREEPORT 8
The Seagulls earned a 28-8 win over Freeport on Friday.
Cody Blanchette got two rushing touchdowns for OOB while Dylan Boudreau rushed for a touchdown and passed for another in the win.
