PORTLAND — Former independent gubernatorial candidate Eliot Cutler has resigned from his job aimed at helping get a new graduate center off the ground in southern Maine.
George Campbell, president of the University of Southern Maine Foundation, will be the interim CEO of the new graduate center at the University of Southern Maine.
The center was created to bring together graduate law, business and public service programs under one roof. Cutler said he reached his goals of creating a business plan and getting the center on sound financial footing, and that it’s now time to move on.
In a letter dated Thursday, Cutler said he intended “to remain engaged, involved and supportive” as work on the center continues.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
