The Tigers set the tone early, racking up a 28-0 lead in the first half on three Carter Edgerton touchdown passes and an opening-drive rush by Cam Lantagne.
“I respect Westbrook kids — I think Westbrook kids are tough kids. I really don’t know what kind of football team I have, I have a lot of really good football players but I didn’t know how they would gel but for opening day I was pretty pleased,” said Biddeford head coach Brian Curit of the win.

Biddeford opened the game by rushing the ball 84 yards downfield which led to Lantagne’s 24-yard touchdown up the gut. Perhaps the play of the game came as the clock hit 0:00 in the first quarter, as Edgerton connected with Curtis Petit for a 68-yard touchdown pass that doubled the lead at the end of the first.
Edgerton stayed hot in the second, and connected with Zachary Reali on a 14-yard touchdown strike, followed by a 28-yard score on a pass to Cody Saucier in the final two minutes of the half to extend the lead to 28-0 at the break.
“We always respect Westbrook, they’re always a tough team. I just think we were really prepared today. We came out running the ball well, we came out throwing the ball well, and our line played great,” said Edgerton.
“Carter is a very good football player — the senior skill kids Lantagne, Levigne, Petit, those guys work so well together,” added Curit.
Edgerton would put the game out of reach late in the third quarter, scrambling for a three-yard score to extend the lead to 35-0. Biddeford’s subs took over from there, and added eight more points on a Scott Spellman run and a successful two-point PAT run by Colin Petit.
Edgerton went 5-for-5 for 136 yards passing, and Lantagne finished with over 100 yards rushing for the Tigers.
Curit was also pleased with his team’s defense, which held Westbrook to under 50 total yards on the day and only one completed pass. Edgerton added to his impressive night with an interception in the second quarter, and the Tigers also recovered a fumble in the third.
“We have a lot of good players on defense up front … We expect a lot out of our kids both mentally and physically and I think they did a great job,” Curit said.
The Tigers improve to 1-0 as Westbrook falls to 0-1, Edgerton and company were excited to get the big win on opening night.
“We obviously have some great athletes — Coach expects a lot from us on both sides of the ball and we did a great job today.” said Edgerton. “Starting (the season) like this is so important, we couldn’t have asked for a better start to be honest. What a great way to open up the season.”
