Freeport
A Durham man has been killed and two injured in a crash on Interstate 295 in Freeport late Thursday.
Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland confirmed that Dana Thibeault, 52, was killed after the tractor-trailer cab he was driving was struck by a van driven by Mark Fleming, also 52, of Cape Elizabeth, who had swerved in order to avoid a deer. Both vehicles left the roadway and overturned.
Fleming and his wife, who was a passenger, were transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland with non-life threatening injuries.
Thibeault died at the scene.
The accident occurred in the southbound lane near the Desert Road overpass and was reported at 11:50 p.m. The road was shut down for a time and traffic diverted onto Route 1.
This is now the 100th highway fatality of the year, according to McCausland.
