HARTFORD, Conn.
Hartford righty Ryan Castellani (9-12) tossed eight scoreless frames on five hits, leading the Yard Goats (60- 73) to a 6-0 Eastern League win over the Portland Sea Dogs (62-71) on Monday night at Dunkin’ Donuts Park.
Hartford went to work right away, scoring three times off losing pitcher Henry Owens (3-6). Drew Weeks knocked home the first run with a single and Dom Nunez delivered a two-run hit. Owens suffered his third straight loss, working 5 1/3 innings on three hits, six runs (five earned) on seven walks and three strikeouts.
Hartford scored three in the sixth, all three were inherited runners allowed by Jake Cosart. Ryan Metzler had a sacrifice fly and Juan Ciriaco knocked in a run with a bunt, but a throwing error by Cosart enabled a second run.
Josh Ockimey went 2-for-2 with a walk and has reached base safely in 10 of his last 11 plate appearances for Portland. Bobby Poyner pitched the eighth and stranded the bases loaded.
