BRUNSWICK

More than three months after the resignation of Brunswick’s assistant town manager, councilors are urging the town manager choose a replacement.

Councilor Jane Millett said a town of 22,000 citizens needs an assistant town manager to help operate municipal affairs, adding that the salary for the position is included in the town budget.

Chairwoman Alison Harris said the responsibility of hiring town staff is the job of the town manager, and that she would not support a council motion to direct the town manager to hire somebody.

Town Manager John Eldridge said the plan is to hire an assistant and that he’s heard what people have said.

Former Brunswick Assistant Town Manager Derek Scrapchansky resigned from the position on May 12.

“I know Brunswick has many incredibly talented employees, and I am confident they will continue to serve our community well,” Scrapchansky wrote in his resignation letter to Eldridge.
