HOLLIS — A motorcyclist from Windham died in an accident late Saturday evening in Hollis.

According to Maine State Police Public Information Officer Steve McCausland, troopers responded to the scene of an accident off Route 35 in Hollis about 11 p.m. Saturday.

McCausland said that Edward Stanhope of Windham, 45, was killed when his 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle failed to negotiate a curve and left the roadway, striking a tree.

Troopers said speed and alcohol are likely factors, McCausland said.

Bureau of Highway Safety statistics show that this accident was the 11th motorcycle fatality of the year, one more than at the same time period a year ago.
