BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (AP) — Ricky Knapp tossed a four-hit complete game and Kevin Kaczmarski hit a two-run home run, as the Binghamton Rumble Ponies topped the Portland Sea Dogs 4-1 in the first game of a doubleheader on Friday.
Knapp (1-0) picked up the win after he struck out nine while allowing one run.
Binghamton got on the board first in the fourth inning when Gustavo Nunez hit a sacrifice fly and Kaczmarski hit a two-run home run.
Portland answered in the top of the next frame when Jordan Procyshen hit an RBI double, bringing home Henry Urrutia to cut the deficit to two.
The Rumble Ponies tacked on another run in the fifth when L.J. Mazzilli scored on a wild pitch.
Henry Owens (3-4) went 5 1/3 innings, allowing four runs and five hits in the Eastern League game. He also struck out two and walked three.
