KENNEBUNK — Looking for a way to give your dog some exercise while helping other animals at the same time? Then mark your calendar for Sunday, Sept. 10, for the Animal Welfare Society’s Strut your Mutt event at Mother’s Beach in Kennebunk.

Strut Your Mutt, now entering its 23rd year, is AWS’s biggest annual fundraiser. Things will kick off at 9 a.m., with a beach walk at 11 a.m. This year festivities include a kid’s zone with a bounce house and carnival games, a wellness zone where dogs can get nail trims and microchip scans and a canine agility zone, where pets can showcase their athletic abilities.

Additionally, there will be a pet pavilion containing merchants and pet vendors, as well as live music from local Kittery band The Serfs.

“Strut Your Mutt is a very fun day at the beach,” said Stephanie Kelley, marketing associate at AWS. “Everybody — pooches and people of all ages — will enjoy the festivities leading up to the scenic walk, including a complimentary photo booth, which is new this year.”

She added that friends and family are encouraged to pledge, and that “all funds raised at Strut are allocated to pet medical care to cover everything from a simple dose of antibiotics to a major surgery.”
