LYMAN – A woman sustained wounds to her arms and the man whom police allege stabbed her is in custody after a run-in with Maine State Police on Monday night.

Jacob Poirier, 25, was taken into custody at about 7:30 p.m. in the middle of the roadway on Country Way. Police used a stun gun to subdue him after he failed to comply with verbal commands, they said in a statement.

Police said they’d originally gotten word that two people were injured but it was later determined the woman was the sole victim. She was able to flee the residence and go to a neighbor’s house and called 911 for help. The other resident left in a vehicle, police said.

Poirier was taken to York County Jail after a brief visit to the hospital and is charged with elevated aggravated assault, a Class A felony. He is held without bail pending a video court appearance from the jail to Springvale District Court this afternoon.

Police said the victim was treated at the hospital for significant stab wounds to her arms.
