BATH — The preliminary design of the new Morse High School has been released.
The new school, serving Woolwich, Phippsburg, Arrowsic, and Bath, will be located in the Wing Farm Business Park, and is a state-funded replacement for the aging Morse High School at 826 High St. The design of the new building features $7.2 million in locally funded elements like theater upgrades and additional dining space.
The largest costs to local funding are a geothermal system and budgeting for exterior design, sustainability, and more durable materials. A booklet covering the layout of the school and what the local funding is put towards is available at sites.google.com/a/rsu1.org/morse-building-project/.
The project started in spring 2014 when Morse High School was put on the Approved Construction Projects list by the State Board of Education. Since then, Regional School Unit 1 and a committee of volunteers have been working with Lavallee Brensinger Architects on finalizing a design for the new school.
According to Ron Lamarre, design principal for Lavallee Brensinger, the project is still on schedule. “We’re looking at the completing the project and moving in September of 2020,” said Lamarre.
Comments or suggestions on the design should be directed to Superintendent Patrick Manuel.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
