
Funeral services will be held at the Goodwins Mills Advent Christian Church in Dayton, Maine on Saturday, Aug. 19 at 2 p.m. Visiting hours at the Dennett, Craig & Pate funeral home in Saco, Maine are Friday, Aug. 18, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Graveside services in Princeton, Maine will be Saturday, Aug. 26 at 2 p.m.
He was born on Sept. 2, 1923, in Princeton, Maine to Peter & Villa (Orcutt) Carle. Parks attended a one-room school house prior to graduating from Princeton High School in 1941. After high school, he worked in the National Youth Administration and farmed. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. In 1949, Parks graduated with a physics degree from the University of Maine at Orono.
He married Marilyn Edgerly, of Princeton, Maine on Sept. 10, 1949. They made their home and raised their children on the Carle family farm. They were married for 62 years before Marilyn passed away in 2011.
He was an active member of the Princeton Baptist Church, a friend of the Goodwins Mills Advent Christian Church, a member of the Big Lake Campmeeting Association, and a longtime member of Princeton Grange #293. He taught science and mathematics at Princeton High School, and was a selectman for the Town of Princeton. Parks particularly enjoyed being a potato farmer and logger in Princeton.
His interests included reading and raising farm animals. During his life he raised several pairs of oxen for pulling. Parks was adept at maintaining and repairing his farming and logging equipment.
Parks and Marilyn enjoyed hosting their extended family and friends at their summer camp on Big Lake. His family fondly remembers him diving off the wharf at his camp when he was 90 years old.
Parks is survived by: his brother, Orcutt Carle of Connecticut; daughter, Helen Seder of Westbrook; son, Stephen Carle and Kathy Caver of Brewer,;and daughter, Karen and Stephen Cole of Dayton. Marilyn and Parks have nine grandchildren, Rebekah Seder and Eric Kollig, Gabriel Seder, Molly Seder and Greg Donadio, Brittany Carle, Zackary Carle, Brandy Carle and Blake Ford, Forrest Carle, Emory Cole and Eliza Mae Cole and Jared St Onge.
Reverend Ernest Carle of Sunrise Christian Church, in Big Lake Township, and Reverend Russell Giasson of Goodwins Mills Advent Christian Church, in Dayton, will be officiating.
Special thanks to Ernest Carle and William I Branch for their faithful correspondence in Parks’ later years, and to the caring staff at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough.
