LYMAN — A local town government is looking to fill vacancies for a number of town boards and committees.
The Town of Lyman has posted vacancies for numerous positions on its website.
The following are open positions:
• The Board of Assessment Review, which holds the authority to hear property assessment appeals, is looking for one new member. According to the town website, members must be able to hold public hearings, make findings of fact and conclusions of law in accordance with state law, and issue written decisions setting forth their findings and conclusions.
• The Ordinance Review Committee, which is responsible for reviewing and amending town ordinances, needs one new member to join. According to the town website, this committee is to review and/or draft ordinance language at the request of the Board of Selectmen and suggest or recommend changes consistent with the Town Comprehensive Plan for the benefit of residents.
• The Zoning Board of Appeal, which holds the authority to hear appeals of the Code Enforcement Officer’s decisions regarding zoning, needs two alternates. According to the town website, this board provides property owners a place to address grievances with decisions of the Code Enforcement officer. Board members provide a neutral, unbiased review of challenged CEO decisions.
• The Cemetery Committee, with a mission statement to inventory all town cemeteries, to provide updated maps/lists/GPS locations, and provide methods for current repairs and ongoing maintenance in the cemeteries, is looking for three new members. Members will also assist with placement of Veteran’s Flags on all Veteran graves on major holidays.
• The Planning Board, which applies the directives of the Comp Plan, Zoning Ordinance, and Shoreland Zoning Ordinance, is looking for an alternate. According to the town website, the board has the task of promoting the health, safety and general welfare of the residents of Lyman.
• The Parks and Recreation Committee, which helps organize and foster civic and social events in Lyman, is looking for three to five members to join.
Additionally, the Building and Ground Maintenance Committee is in need of three to five members, the Conservation Commission is in need of seven members, the Forestry Committee is in need of three to five members, the Hiring Committee is looking for six members, and the Horace Cousens Scholarship Committee is looking for one member.
The Lyman Select Board office has applications available for those interested in participating in local government.
Applications can also be found at lyman-me.gov under general information in downloadable forms.
Applicants must provide their information of residency in Lyman, current employer and occupation. Also required is the applicants’ interests, past service to boards or committees, and the reason they wish to serve on the desired board or committee.
Once applications have been submitted, a copy will be sent to the head of desired committee to review. Upon review, applications are included on the Select Board meeting to be considered. Depending on the board or committee, applicants may be asked to meet the other members.
