Sea Dogs drop slugfest against Fisher Cats, 15-8

Mike Olt hit a two-run double during a three-run first inning for the Portland Sea Dogs, but the New Hampshire Fisher Cats answered with six runs in the bottom of the first and rolled to a 15-8 win in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Portland starter Trey Ball recorded only three outs, leaving after the first three batters in the second inning reached safely. He was charged with eight runs – seven earned – on nine hits.

Gurriel Lourdes paced the Fisher Cats, going 3 for 5 with four RBI.

Danny Mars went 3 for 6 and Jeremy Barfield hit his ninth home run of the season for the Sea Dogs.

BASKETBALL

NBA: Abdel Nader, the 2017 D-League Rookie of the Year for the Maine Red Claws, agreed to a four-year, $6 million contract with the Boston Celtics, according to numerous reports.

Nader, the No. 58 overall pick in the 2016 draft, averaged 21.3 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists for the Red Claws.

• The Indiana Pacers acquired guard Cory Joseph from the Toronto Raptors in exchange for forward Emir Preldzic.

Joseph, 26, averaged 9.3 points, 2.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists last season. He made 22 starts.

Preldzic has spent the last two seasons in the Turkish League.

WNBA: Emma Meesseman scored 15 points and the Washington Mystics beat the visiting Indiana Fever 72-58 despite losing star forward Elena Delle Donne to a sprained right ankle.

• Stefanie Dolson scored 23 points and the visiting Chicago Sky earned their third straight win, 78-68 over the New York Liberty.

CYCLING

TOUR DE FRANCE: Warren Barguil delivered a stylish victory to France on Bastille Day, winning a fast and furious Stage 13 while Fabio Aru had to work hard to retain his overall lead.

Barguil rode into the finish in Foix as part of a four-man group and took the win in the 63-mile stage with a final sprint.

Aru maintained his six-second lead over defending champion Chris Froome, but Froome’s teammate, Mikel Landa gained ground and jumped up to fifth place, 1:09 behind Aru.

FOOTBALL

NFL: Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Michael Floyd was suspended without pay for the first four games of the regular season for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.

Floyd was arrested in Arizona in December after Scottsdale police found him unresponsive at the wheel of his vehicle while it was running at an intersection, reporting a blood alcohol level of 0.217 – more than 21/2 times legal limit in Arizona. He pleaded guilty in February to extreme drunken driving.

Last month, an Arizona judge ordered Floyd to serve one day in jail for failing alcohol tests while under house arrest for the drunken driving conviction. He blamed the results on a type of fermented tea called kombucha.

Floyd will be allowed to participate in all preseason practices and games. He can return to the active roster Oct. 2.

HOCKEY

NHL: The Tampa Bay Lightning re-signed left winger Ondrej Palat to a $26.5 million, five-year deal.

Palat, 26, had 17 goals and 35 assists in 75 games last season.
