Custom Deluxe, a Biddeford restaurant that received good reviews from both customers and critics, has apparently closed for good.

The restaurant was open in May, then in early summer Biddeford residents noticed it was closed with a note on the door that appeared to indicate it was a temporary closure, according to Daniel Stevenson, economic development director for the city. But the restaurant has not re-opened.

The Maine Sunday Telegram’s restaurant critic called the food at Custom Deluxe “memorable” and gave it four out of five stars. Its menu was often idiosyncratic and imaginative.

“I raved about it, locals raved about it, people visiting here raved about them,” Stevenson said. “The food was fantastic.”

Chef/owner Thomas Malz did not return requests for comment about the closure or his future plans. And no notice is posted on the restaurant’s Facebook page, but the space is offered for “lease to own” on Craig’s List.
