KENNEBUNK — Friends of Katherine “Kate” Moxham, the Kennebunk woman who died Friday following injuries sustained from a crash on High Street last week, remember her as a “ray of sunshine.”
Moxham, 46, of Kennebunk, was seriously injured Wednesday when the bicycle she was riding was struck by a pickup truck on High Street. She succumbed to her injuries Friday at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Kennebunk Dep. Police Chief Michael Nugent said Friday evening.
“Our sincere condolences go out to the Moxham family and to everyone impacted by this tragedy,” Kennebunk Dep. Police Chief Michael Nugent said Friday evening.
Nugent said Thursday that police and Kennebunk Fire Rescue responded to a reported crash involving a bicyclist and a pickup truck on High Street between Cat Mousam Road (Route 99) and Harrisecket Road on Wednesday.
Moxham had been riding her bicycle eastbound when she was struck by a pickup truck traveling west that had crossed the centerline. The truck was operated by a juvenile, Nugent said, who was taken to Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford with minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
Moxham was remembered on social media as a kind and caring individual, with some calling her passing a “giant loss.”
“I sit here tonight and am just so heartbroken. (Kate) was the most amazing person. She was full of life,” Sally Tartre posted to Facebook Friday. “She taught me to live every moment. I will treasure her spirit.”
“We lost a true ray of sunshine today,” Beth Milburn MacLeod posted Friday. I will always remember your smile.
Katie Hawes, superintendent of Regional School Unit 21, which includes Kennebunk, said in an email Friday school counselors, school social workers and professionals from the Center for Grieving Children would be available at Kennebunk Elementary School this (Monday) morning.
“By now you have likely heard that our dear friend and long-time education supporter, Kate Moxham, has passed away,” Hawes said. “We encourage anyone who needs support to join us.”
