SOUTH PORTLAND — Police have identified the Hollis man killed in a crash in South Portland on Sunday.

The Associated Press reports 24-year-old Joseph LePage was struck and killed by a driver as he was walking on Cummings Road early Sunday morning.

South Portland Police said on their Facebook page they responded to the area of 29 Cummings Road, near the rear entrance of Target, shortly after midnight for report of a motor vehicle crash and one pedestrian.

LePage had been walking on south on Cummings Road when he was struck and killed by a vehicle traveling south, police said.

Police identified the driver as Kristen Hodak, 29, of Arundel.

Her vehicle was found two miles from the scene, disabled and unattended. Police said she initially received a ride to a nearby friend’s house, but later returned to the scene of the crash.

LePage died at the scene, police said.

Hodak has been charged with operating under the influence and causing the death of another person, a Class B felony, and failing to stop for an accident resulting in death, a Class C felony.

Police said Cummings Road between Running Hill and Payne roads was closed for several hours while the incident was investigated. The road reopened at about 5 a.m. Sunday.

Hodak was taken to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland, where jail officials said she was free on bail Monday.

It was unclear when she is expected to appear in court.
