BIDDEFORD — Two representatives of the city of Biddeford were on hand at the June luncheon and meeting of the Biddeford Fifty Plus Club to accept a check for the purchase of a new bus for club members.

Alan Casavant, Biddeford mayor, and Carl Walsh, Biddeford recreation director, were presented with a check for $44,672.48 by Fifty Plus Club Treasurer Barbara Jackson. The money is the club’s share toward the city buying a new 36-passenger Coach bus.

The new bus is currently on order with a small remaining balance to be paid by the club over the next three years.

Club members also held a Senior Prom on June 17 in the auditorium of the Ross Center on Alfred Street with 78 members attending. DJ Jerry Lapierre played 50’s and 60’s music and Gabriele (“Gabby”) LeBrun, was named prom queen, with Frank DeFrancesco named prom king.

Other prom awards included Joan Brochu as Best Dressed, with Larry O’Brien as Best Dancer, and Debbie and Luc Godbout, Best Couple.

Club members also walked and rode in the La Kermesse parade on June 23.

The Biddeford Fifty Plus Club meeting will be a dinner event from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, at the Ramada Inn and Conference Center in Saco.

Dinner menu features barbecue chicken, baked beans with barbecue sauce, red bliss potato salad, seasonal veggies, a summer greens salad with fruit, assorted rolls, and dessert with coffee and tea included.

To register, call 282-5005 or stop by the Ross Center, at 189 Alfred St. in Biddeford by Thursday, July 6. The cost is $20 and payment is due at the time of registration in the form of cash or check.
