CUSHING (AP) — A Maine home was set ablaze after being struck by a lightning bolt during a series of thunderstorms Tuesday.

The fire was reported around 7 p.m. and firefighters were not able to respond in time to save the Cushing home.

The exterior of the home is still standing, but the inside has been badly damaged.

Resident Tony Campagna says he was the only person home when the lightning hit, and went to his neighbor’s house after calling 911.

He and his wife will be staying at their neighbor’s home until they figure out their next steps.

Cushing Fire Chief Arthur Kiskala says they will have to tear down the house and rebuild.

A home in Thomaston was also struck by lightning, but no injuries were reported.
