BRUNSWICK — While tentative plans for a state government shutdown continue, Gov. Paul LePage said on talk radio Tuesday that state parks would stay open for the duration.

“State parks stay open because I fear for vandalism,” said LePage on WVOM.

The governor also said that he would prioritize law enforcement and the protection of property when deciding who will keep working through the shutdown, which will happen if a budget isn’t passed into law by Friday. LePage also said that state employees working in revenue would continue working through the shutdown.

LePage was unsure whether the courts would be kept open, though he noted that they would probably be closed July 4, giving the state more time to resolve the shutdown.
