OLD ORCHARD BEACH — For the first time ever, high school wrestlers will take over The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach this summer, and there is still time for competitors to sign up for the unique event.

The “ Rumble at The Ballpark” is scheduled to take place on July 29 and is expected to draw participants from across the state of Maine and beyond.

“We are drawing interest from around the state and we are looking forward to seeing the entire Maine wrestling community at The Ballpark next month,” said tournament director Pat McDonald, who is a former sports editor of the Journal Tribune.

All proceeds from the event will go to local high school wrestling programs and The Ballpark, according to McDonald.

“ We will welcome any help from local businesses or residents who want to chip in to make this event a success,” said McDonald.

The tournament is for wrestlers that will be in grades 8- 12 during the 2017-18 school year.

The cost is $ 20 per wrestler and each athlete will be guaranteed at least four matches. Each wrestler must have a current USA Wrestling card. There will be a USA Wrestling representative on hand at the tournament to sign up wrestlers without a card.

This will be an individual format tournament, which will begin at 11 a.m. and conclude with the finals at approximately 5 p.m.
