SANFORD — SIS Bank has donated $500 to York County Shelter Programs through the bank’s monthly Employee Donation Program.

As part of the philanthropic initiative, SIS President and CEO Mark Mickeriz randomly selects an employee to choose a local nonprofit to receive the $500 gift.

Yok County Shelter programs was the charity named for June by Scott Martel, a facilities manager at SIS.

Its services far exceed the emergency shelter called out in its name. The organization’s goal is not just to end homelessness—it is to help people reach their fullest potential by providing access to various levels of housing, personal growth opportunities and community resources.

This includes but is not limited to vocational training, mental health and substance abuse treatment, case management, food services, and medical and legal assistance.

The Alfred-based charity has over 120 housing units throughout Southern Maine, in addition to multiple facilities used for the program’s various other services.

“We’re proud to make this donation to an organization that believes, like we do, that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of circumstances,” Mickeriz said. “These core values are what we believe helps make a community grow stronger.”

Founded in 1933 and headquartered in Sanford, with additional branch locations in Springvale, South Sanford, Limerick, Buxton, Waterboro, Wells and York, Maine and Portsmouth, New Hampshire, SIS is a mutual savings bank that operates solely for the benefit of its deposit and loan customers and is focused on giving back to the communities where it serves.

Deposits are insured in full by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. SIS is an Equal Opportunity Employer and Equal Housing Lender.
