LeClerc has been making this recipe since her early 20s and even made a version of it when she was working at Genes Bakery in Sanford.
She has prepared so many of these cakes that she couldn’t give residents the exact number.
Atria residents loved Irene’s flag cake and one sugar tooth resident whose name we will keep you guessing humorously said, “Oh Irene, your cake was so good, the best cake I’ve ever had. I ended up having two pieces and skipped my lunch!”
Another resident asked Irene, “Can you make this cake once a month?”
Atria Kennebunk’s Director of Culinary Services, John Caron exuded much enthusiasm for helping yet another resident make a recipe come alive.
The cake was baked in honor of Flag Day on Wednesday as residents gathered to pay tribute to all of our veterans, Police and Fire Departments past and present for their sacrifice and helping to protect our nation and what our country’s flag represents.
