DAYTON — A country convenience store in the small town of Dayton can now apply for a state liquor license.

On Tuesday, voters approved a measure to allow state agency liquor stores to operate Monday through Saturday and approved an additional measure to allow them to operate on Sunday.

According to Code Enforcement Officer Jim Roberts, the question was sparked by the desire of the owner of Dayton Country Store to sell liquor. The store currently sells beer and wine.

Dayton Country Store is a gas station and convenience store located in the center of town at the intersection of routes 5 and 35.

The owner of the store was unavailable at press time, but a post on the store’s Facebook page on Tuesday urged registered voters in the small town to vote to approve the liquor referendums.
