York County Sheriff Bill King said Tuesday that Doyle Strickland, 56, of Arundel, was being held without bail at the York County Jail in Alfred for allegedly pushing down his girlfriend — who has not been named — causing a laceration to her head.
King said York County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the woman’s call at a New Road residence around 6 a.m. Tuesday, where they met with Strickland, who has intoxicated. He presented officers with a cut on his left hand, saying his girlfriend had attacked him with scissors.
Upon investigation, Sgt. Dave Chauvette and Dep. Duane Fay determined Strickland’s injury was self-inflicted in an attempt to justify pushing the victim and causing her injuries.
Strickland was arrested and charged with domestic violence assault. He is set to make his first appearance before a judge by video stream today in Springvale District Court.
Strickland required no hospitalization. The victim was taken to Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford, where she was treated and released.
