CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Bowdoin College’s Grant Urken advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championship before bowing out on Friday afternoon, capping a solid run by the sophomore at the individual tournament.

Urken claimed his first two matches on Thursday, against Jordan Krasner (Washington & Lee), 7-6, 6-1, and over Chase Lipscomb (Redlands), 6-2, 6-3. He battled fifth-seeded Brandon Metzler of Kalamazoo in the quarterfinal round before falling in an eventual 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 decision.

It was the only three-set match in either the quarterfinal or semifinal round played on Friday.

Bowdoin’s Luke Tercek also competed in the individual championship, advancing out of the first round with a win against second-seeded Aman Manji of Emory, 6-3, 6-1, before losing in the second round to Daniel Morkovine of CMS.

By virtue of their wins at the NCAA individual championship, both players will automatically garner All- American recognition.

In women’s play, Bowdoin’s Tess Trinka advanced to the second round on Thursday in her first-ever appearance in the national individual tournament.

The junior earned a firstround victory against Mary Cardone (Southwestern), 7-6, 6-0, before falling in a second round match to Brooke Donnelly (Washington & Lee) by a score of 6-0, 6-7, 6-2. Her first-round win automatically awards her All- American recognition.

Senior Joulia Likhanskaia also qualified for the championship and fell in a first-round match to Michelle Satterfield of Emory, 6-1, 7-5.

She also teamed with Samantha Stalder in the doubles championship, but lost to a team from CMS, 6-2, 6-2 in the opening round.
