BIDDEFORD — Irene G. Lavertue, 87, of Biddeford, passed away Tuesday evening on May 23, 2017, at Pine Point Center in Scarborough.

She was born in Biddeford on Aug. 2, 1929, a daughter of Rene and Germaine (Fontaine) Bissonnette.

She was educated from St. Joseph’s High School in Biddeford.

Irene was employed by Sabourin’s Bakery in Biddeford for 14 years, Pepperell Manufacturing in Biddeford for 14 years and later by Herman Shoe in Scarborough for 14 years. In 1992, she retired from Fiber Materials Inc. in Biddeford.

Irene enjoyed shopping and going out to eat. She also liked to play cards and go dancing on Saturday nights.

Mrs. Lavertue was a parishioner of Good Shepherd Parish.

She was predeceased by her first husband Charles E. Fournier in 1987, her second husband Roland G. Lavertue in 2009 and by one sister Doris Bissonnette.

She is survived by her son Norman C. Fournier and his wife Denise and their children Benjamin, Joseph, Victoria and Katherine and great grandchildren Allyson, Abbigail, Ellie and Cooper and her son Ricky M. Fournier, his children Charlie and Jennifer and great grandchildren Zoeii, MacKenzie, Trinity and Kaiden. She is also survived by two sisters Rita Nadeau and her husband Frank and Priscilla Trempe and several nephews.

Visiting Hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Cote Funeral Home Chapel, 87 James St., Saco. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, May 26, 2017, at Most Holy Trinity Church in Saco. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Biddeford.
