An Oxford man has been charged by the State Fire Marshal’s Office with setting a fire in the apartment complex where he lives.
Timothy C. Williams Jr., 29, was arrested Thursday evening and charged with arson, according to a post on the state fire marshal’s Facebook page.
Investigators said that around 4 a.m. Tuesday, Williams set fire to a newspaper near the doorway of an elderly resident who lives on the same floor as he does. The woman heard the building’s fire alarm but was unable to leave her apartment because fire blocked the doorway. After dousing the fire with water, she was able to escape.
No one was injured in the fire. According to the fire marshal’s Facebook page, Williams was mad at another tenant in the building.
The fire was the second at the Oxford Meadow Apartment complex in the past year. Last May an elderly resident died after an electrical fire in a common area. That fire was ruled an accident.
