NEWBURGH (AP) — Volunteer firefighters have quit after a Maine town refused to reinstate the long-time fire chief.
Newburgh’s Fire Chief Glen Williamson verbally resigned in August and he quit because of a personal dispute with the town manager.
In a statement, the town’s selectmen say they rejected a list of demands by representatives of the fire department. The demands were presented at a board meeting to consider Williamson’s reappointment.
The statement says the firefighters in attendance resigned “en masse” Monday night after the rejection.
The select board says a dispatch center was notified and a new fire chief would be appointed Tuesday.
