BENTON — An 80-year-old woman was killed in a single-vehicle rollover on Interstate 95 in Benton Monday evening.

Mary Ricci of Portland was killed when her northbound car veered off the road into the median, went airborne, then rolled three times before coming to rest on its roof, according to Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Department of Public Safety.

The crash happened at about 5:30 p.m. near mile marker 136.

The vehicle came to rest about 300 feet from the interstate, according to Maine State Police.

Ricci was pronounced dead at the scene.

Vehicle debris and personal belongings were scattered along the embankment after the crash, and traffic was reduced to one lane while police and other emergency personnel worked at the scene.

Investigators have not yet determined what caused the crash, McCausland said.
