On May 5, the Board of Directors of the John C. Duranceau Scholarship Fund presented a $10,000 check for a new sound system to be installed in Biddeford High School’s Tiger Gym.
John C. Duranceau, a 1980 Biddeford High graduate, was a beloved member of the Biddeford-Saco community when he passed away unexpectedly in 2010.
His family began the John Duranceau Memorial Golf Tournament, a game he loved, to provide college scholarships to a Biddeford High School and Thornton Academy graduating seniors.
Lynn Duranceau-Tilley of the Duranceau Scholarship Fund said the donation is intended to enhance ongoing improvements being made at the school.
“We are honored to give back to our alma mater in John’s memory,” she said. “We were impressed with the tour and know he would’ve been proud of the renovated high school. We are pleased that a plaque with his photo will be visible as people enter the gym.”
Since its inception, the scholarship fund has awarded $7,000 to students.
