BRUNSWICK — The Bates College women’s track and field team finished as runnerup to Williams on Saturday at the NESCAC Championships at Bowdoin — the program’s highest finish ever at the meet, which began in 1984.
Senior Allison Hill of Brunswick was a winner in three events, and the Bobcats had 10 top-three event finishes in all, including victories in the 100-meter hurdles, 200, 4 x 100 relay and 800.
Hill missed the meet’s 100 hurdles record of 14.35 seconds by only 0.01 with her trial time of 14.36. She then blew away the competition in the final, beating runner-up Maddie Pronovost of Middlebury by 0.45 seconds with her time of 14.38.
Hill followed that by claiming the conference title in the 200 in a team-record time of 24.82 seconds, slashing 0.67 seconds off of the former mark of 25.49, previously shared by Hill and Dana Lindauer.
Bates won the 4 x 100 relay in 48.30, with Hill running the second leg.
Hill also led off Bates’ second place 4 x 400 relay effort and Markonic anchored, as the Bobcats finished in 3:54.67, 0.47 behind Williams.
Next up for Bates is the New England Division III Outdoor Championship, held Friday and Saturday at Williams College.
