BATH

As the longest-running national celebration of books for young people, Children’s Book Week is represented in more than 650 schools, libraries and bookstores across all 50 states. The Mustard Seed Bookstore in Bath will join in the festivities, hosting official Children’s Book Week events between May 1-7.

This May marks the 98th anniversary of Children’s Book Week, and the theme for this year’s celebration is “One World, Many Stories.”

Voting for the 10th Annual Children’s & Teen Choice Book Awards, the only book award voted on solely by kids and teens, began in March, and the bookstore will hold group voting from May 1-7.

Special events are planned at the store, in conjunction with Bath’s May Fair, on May 6, from 10 a.m. to noon. Weather permitting, all activities will take place outside in front of the store, including a special story time, a free ‘fishing booth’ and a make-your- own-bookmarks craft table.

All kids and teens will receive a free 2017 Children’s Book Week activity poster designed by Christian Robinson while supplies last, and other gifts.

Children’s Book Week is a cornerstone program of Every Child a Reader, a literacy charity dedicated to inspiring a lifelong love of reading in children and teens across America. Other national programs include the Children’s and Teen Choice Book Awards, Reading Without Walls, and the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, in partnership with the Library of Congress. Individual and corporate donations, grants, and the Children’s Book Council support Every Child a Reader.

The Mustard Seed is located at 74 Front St., in Bath.
