“Sisters in Crime” will celebrate its 30th birthday at the Wiscasset Public Library on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with speakers, refreshments and a mystery in the library contest.
“Sisters in Crime” is an internal organization began to encourage female crime writers in a field that — 30 years ago — was male-dominated. Information about “Sisters in Crime” will be available at the event.
A crime mystery will be set up in the library, and attendees are invited to try to solve the crime. Those who guess the correct solution will be eligible to win prizes. There will food available all day, including breakfast treats in the morning, finger foods throughout the day and a birthday cake.
At 11 a.m., three “Sisters in Crime” will speak about the organization and what it means to them. They will also talk about their books and have copies available for sale. The three speakers are Gayle Lynds, Maureen Milliken and Janet Morgan.
New York Times bestseller Lynds is the award-winning author of ten international espionage novels, including “ The Assasssins,” “The Book of Spies” and “The Last Spymaster.” Lynds’ career began with publishing both literary short stories and male adventure novels.
Her books have won numerous awards, including “ Best Novel” from Romantic Times, the American Authors Association and the Military Writers Society of America. Publishers Weekly lists her thriller “ Masquerade” among the top 10 spy novels of all time.

Milliken, the author of the Bernie O’Dea mystery series, is a former journalist whose novels reflect her love for the industry where she spent 33 years, as well as her love of her home state of Maine. She grew up in Augusta and came back to Maine in 2011 after three decades away. She is now a full-time writer and parttime editor, retail print and copy associate. Wiscasset native Morgan is the author of three Killdeer Farm mysteries. She has a BA in English from UMA and worked at the Wiscasset Public Library for 28 years.
Morgan is a member of “Sisters in Crime,” “Sisters in Crime New England” and the “Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance.” She has been published a number of times in “ Goose River Anthology” and other publications.
