KENNEBUNK — Kennebunk’s Louise Holway recently signed her National Letter of Intent to run track for Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts next year.

Holway emerged as one of the state’s premiere runners throughout her high school career, and recently took home second in the 1 mile run, and third in the 2 mile run at the indoor state championship.

Northeastern was always at the top of her list, and she looks forward to taking the next step.

“Northeastern has been one of my top choices since before I started track. When I visited, I love the feeling of pride and passion about being a student there, not to mention their great academics, the co-op program, and the location,” said Holway. “When I started talking to the coaches there, I was really drawn to their dedication to both athletics and academics. I was also extremely humbled by the level of skill on the team, and I think that will really help me become a better runner.”

Holway also looks forward to the increase in competition, and hopes to reach her full potential at the Division I level.

“I think the biggest difference between high school and college track will be the people, both teammates and competitors,” said Holway. “I will constantly be surrounded by athletes that are far more developed and talented than I currently am, and I think that will really motivate me to become the best that I can be.”

Reaching her full potential will be a challenge, but luckily Holway has learned the value of hard work and dedication while running for the Rams. She hopes to carry that work ethic into the college game.

“One of the biggest lessons that I learned in high school track is self-discipline. No matter how hard coaches and teammates push you, if you’re not completely committed you won’t succeed. That’s true in workouts, races, and long term goals, as well as things outside of track,” said Holway.

Although Holway is ready to take her talents to the collegiate level, she will miss the Kennebunk High School community, as well as her teammates and family.

“I will definitely miss the family feel of KHS. Northeastern has over 30,000 students, and although the track team is a family within the whole, I will still miss the constant support and encouragement from everyone in the community,” said Holway. “Most of all, I will miss my mom who gives me an eminence amount of support, encouragement, and love with everything I do.”
