PORTLAND
Drew Weeks’ three-run homer provided all the run support the Hartford Yard Goats (7-10) needed in a 5-0 shutout of the Portland Sea Dogs in Eastern League action at Hadlock Field on Monday.
Jack Wynkoop (2-2) worked eight scoreless innings in the victory and allowed eight hits while walking one and striking out two.
Weeks’ homer cleared the Maine Monster off of Sea Dogs starter Jacob Dahlstrand (1-1) with two on and nobody out in the sixth inning to give Hartford a 3-0 lead. Later in the inning, Hartford added another run on a safety squeeze that allowed Josh Fuentes to score on a bunt by Jan Vazquez.
In addition to the home run, Weeks made six putouts in right field and threw Joseph Monge out at home plate to end the second inning.
Dahlstrand allowed four earned runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings, walking two and striking out two.
Josh Rutledge joined the Sea Dogs on an MLB Rehab Assignment and finished 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout.
Hartford plated its fifth run on an RBI triple by Luis Jean off of Josh Smith in the eighth inning.
The teams meet again tonight at 6 p.m.
