Professional stylist and owner of Betsy’s Salon and Spa, Betsy Varian, will teach hair braiding techniques on April 27 at 3:30 p.m. The workshop is free, open to students in grades 6 through 12 and will be held in Patten Free Library’s Community Room. Pre-registration is required; space is limited.
“With prom and parties coming up, the timing of this workshop couldn’t be better,” said Varian. “We will work on five-strand braids, flower power braids, fishtail, and cool techniques with ribbons.”
Varian will provide instructions, hair elastics, and ribbons. Participants should bring a hair brush or comb. Light refreshments will be served.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
