BRUNSWICK
Tickets for Maine State Music Theatre’s 2017 season will go on sale at midnight on April 26.
The 2017 season starts off on June 7-24, with “Always, Patsy Cline.” The show explores the friendship between a housewife and the legendary country singer — a friendship began that would last until Patsy’s death in 1963. The musical features 27 songs, including “ Crazy,” “Walkin’ After Midnight,” “ I Fall to Pieces,” and “Sweet Dreams.”
In the second slot of the season, MSMT will present Frank Loesser’s “Guys and Dolls” June 28 to July 15. Set in a mythical New York City, “Guys and Dolls” is a romantic comedy that takes the audience from Times Square to Cuba and back in search of luck and love.
T-Birds and Pink Ladies will descend upon the Pickard Stage July 19 to Aug. 5 with “Grease.” Head “greaser” and new (good) girl try to relive the high school romance of their “ Summer Nights” as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through the songs from the hit movie including “You’re The One That I Want,” “Grease is The Word,” “ Hopelessly Devoted to You,” and “Greased Lightnin’.”
The season closes out with the New England regional premiere of “Newsies” Aug. 9-26. Set in New York City at the turn of the century, Newsies is the tale of a ragged band of teenaged “newsies,” who dream only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. This all-singing and dancing show features a score by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken and Jack Feldman.
In addition to the musicals, The Hank Band will perform two shows on July 10, playing the music of Hank Williams Sr.
The Who’s Tommy hits the stage for two performances on July 31. Based on the 1969 rock concept album, the production includes the songs “Acid Queen,” “Pinball Wizard,” and “Uncle Ernie.”
On Aug. 14, Journey back in time through the songs of ‘50s with The Taffetas. This musical revue pays tribute to the McGuire Sisters,
The Fontane Sisters and the Chordettes with songs like “Johnny Angel,” “ Mr. Sandman,” “ You Belong to Me,” “Sh-Boom,” “Where the Boys Are” and more.
This season’s Theatre for Young Audiences shows include Robin and Clark’s “Sleeping Beauty” on June 14 and June 17 and “Alice in Wonderland” on Aug. 21.
All of MSMT’s performances take place at the Pickard Theater on the campus of Bowdoin College located at 1 Bath Road in Brunswick. The box office is located at 22 Elm St., Brunswick through May 26 and moves to the Pickard Theater May 30.
