Ah! There’s nothing like staying home for real comfort. Jane Austin

Earth is full of heaven this month as April promises to cast her magic spell of renewal and replenishment. It seem we have waited long to fling open windows allowin warm and refreshing breezes to flow in. Don’t be surprised if one fine spring day you suddenly feel the urge to wash the curtains and clean the windows.

This month we turn our attentions homeward. We look upon our home through the eyes of love. We rediscover the sacred soul craft of home caring. Spring is the traditional season for bringing order to our homes. It is spring cleaning time-bless the walls, the roof, the windows and the foundation. Now comes the season of general cleaning when all the closets and corners are overturned.

Our modern homes are much cleaner, not to mention our central push vacuums cleaners, modern paints and wonderful washing machines, and new materials- just to mention a few. Technology and the modern conveniences make us more adept at bending, stooping, scrubbing and juggling our cleaning chores. I certainly don’t want to beat my rugs rather than use a vacuum cleaner.

We want to be in a home that embraces, nurtures, delights and inspires us. We are warm and sheltered in a house of our own belonging. Mark Twain confided about their home, “It has a heart, and soul and eyes to see with.”

Keeping home is a labor of love. Housekeeping is an art that combines creativity, physical skill to create comfort, health, beauty order and safety.

In the rush of modern living two-thirds of American women work outside the home-this means tackling household chores after work or weekends.

Thank you men, for we need help with the unrelenting, repetitive, exhausting work known as spring cleaning.

It has been written,” that home is a place where the hearth of your heart is always blazing.” (Time for me to tackle the basement again.)

Also this spring, the Biddeford + Saco Chamber of Commerce + Industry must invest in people and projects that return their investment with measurable satisfaction growth and achievement. The officers and members deserve recognition, respect and acknowledgement for their investments of time, skills and expertise.

These point out some of the work the chambers are doing. This year they have separated the job fair from their Business Expo. They have partnered with the Maine Department of Labor to enhance the events participation. The fair is set for April 24 and is highlighting hospitality and tourism. However, all employers seeking employees are encouraged to participate.

The Chambers have initiated their “Business @Breakfast” program that begins April 26. They have booked a six-part series on several aspects of employment law. This is an opportunity to have breakfast while getting legal advice on the various legal issues concerning businesses of all sizes.

Oh my goodness, I just discovered my e-mail about Biddeford and Saco Restaurant Week in March and this is April. I apologize for not seeing and recognizing the event. Heart of Biddeford executive director Delilah Poupore and Saco and Biddeford Chamber director Craig Pendleton are always exploring, experiencing and expanding through their creations. Powerful and intricate high dreams and ideas nudge our communities on the right path forward.

Thank you readers and wishing you a wonderful, glorious Easter.
