BREAKING THE SILENCE: Joshua Kane, foreground, and Mark Pinkham offload lobster while docked at Cranberry Isles Fishermen’s Co-Op on Little Cranberry Island, southeast of Mount Desert Island. Kane, a 32-year-old lobster-fishing apprentice, is a former opioid addict who encourages other fishermen to seek treatment and talks openly about his own addictions. “It’s hard to get fishermen to talk about the kinds of things that make us drink and do drugs,” he said. “We have a soul. We look at sunsets and think they’re pretty, but we don’t talk about them.”
