A Dresden home was destroyed in a late morning fire on Middle Road Friday.

The double-wide at 606 Middle Road was reported on fire by a neighbor at approximately 11 a.m.

Dresden Fire Chief Steve Lilly said Eric Moody and a significant other lived in the home, which is a total loss. The Salvation Army has been contacted.

A dog and cat also lived in the home. Lilly said the dog was with Moody and there was no evidence the cat was still in the house.

Sonia Lilly, the accountability officer with Dresden Fire Department, was first on scene and said the house was fully engulfed with flames shooting from the roof.

It took approximately 20 minutes to put out the flames.

Firefighters were able to save an outbuilding behind the home, she said.

No one was hurt.

Middle Road was closed while firefighters worked. They cleared the scene at around 2:30 p.m.

Firefighters from Wiscasset, Woolwich, Pittston, Richmond and Gardiner assisted.

Lilly said the state fire marshal’s office responded to investigate. As of Friday afternoon, he said they were unable to determine a cause of the fire, which Lilly said likely started in the living room area.

The fire chief said as often the case, the challenge Friday was getting enough personnel responding to the fire.
