Emily Esposito

Emily Esposito, Gorham, basketball: The senior guard scored 20 points with six steals and two assists to lead Gorham to its second consecutive Class AA championship, a 45-31 win over Oxford Hills. Esposito took over a close game late in the third quarter, scoring seven straight points to give the Rams a 33-24 lead entering the fourth.

HONORABLE MENTION

Skye Conley, Gray-New Gloucester, basketball: Conley, a senior center, scored all 12 of her points in the second half as the Patriots won their first Class B state title, beating defending champ Houlton, 35-31. Conley also had 12 rebounds and five blocked shots, and assisted on two late baskets.

Olivia Skillings, Maine Coast Waldorf, Nordic skiing: A junior who swept the Class C state titles, Skillings was the top qualifier from Maine for the Eastern high school championships Sunday at Black Mountain, posting the fastest times for classical and freestyle pursuit among a field of 41. Maine’s team will compete March 17-19 in Chittenden, Vermont.

Sabrina Armstrong, Brunswick, basketball: A junior, Armstrong scored 13 points in a 58-33 loss to Messalonskee in the Class A state championship game Saturday. She also contributed 10 points in the 54-51 regional final win over Greely.

Matt McDevitt

Matt McDevitt, Greely, basketball: The senior forward made his first four shots and scored 13 points in the first quarter to spark the Rangers to a 59-43 win against Messalonskee in the Class A final. He finished with 23 points, including the 1,000th of his career, and added eight rebounds, two assists and three blocks.

HONORABLE MENTION

Bradley Beaulieu, Marshwood, wrestling: The senior capped a 53-0 season by winning the New England championship at 138 pounds, beating Tim Kane of Fairfield, Connecticut in the final, 5-2. Kane was the 132-pound New England champ in 2016.

Terion Moss, Portland, basketball: The junior guard led the Bulldogs to their second straight Class AA championship, beating South Portland, 60-38. Moss scored 11 points in each half with high efficiency, making 6 of 8 shots, 2 of 3 3-pointers and all eight free throws. He also had nine rebounds and three assists.

Willson Moore, Waynflete, Nordic skiing: A senior who swept the Class C state titles, Moore turned in the fastest time in the 4-kilometer classical race at Black Mountain to qualify for the Eastern high school championships.
