A member of the third generation of the family-owned Hammond Lumber Co. has been named its top executive.

Mike Hammond, who has been a vice president for 20 years, was named CEO and president of the company, according to a news release. Hammond Lumber is one of the largest independent building materials suppliers in the Northeast.

“I am humbled and proud of the opportunity I have been given,” Hammond said Monday. “As we continue to grow, we have developed a strong core of experienced and knowledgeable employees that are committed to providing exceptional customer service. I’m eager to continue investing in Hammond Lumber Co.’s long-term growth and vitality.”

He follows his father, Don, who had been president since 1997. Don Hammond will continue to work for the company as a vice president.

Mike Hammond started working at Hammond Lumber Co. in high school, then later received a degree in business administration from the University of Southern Maine.

The Belgrade-based company has been manufacturing eastern white pine lumber since it was founded in 1953 by Clifton “Skip” and Verna Hammond when the couple bought a saw mill. The company now has 13 retail stores around the state, as well as a Maine Pine Log Homes division, which manufactures and markets log-home building packages.

Hammond Lumber Co. ranked 35th in sales on the 2016 ProSales 100 List, a magazine that tracks data from the construction industry. It has 460 employees and last year reported sales revenue of $151 million.
