He loved spending time in his workshop from sun-up to sun-down only taking breaks to eat. He always had several projects going on. He was also known for his flower gardens and wanted everything perfect so he would measure the distance between flowers when planting. The end results were beautiful and enjoyed by many.
He is preceded in death by his son, David, who passed away in 2016.
Vernard is survived by: his wife, June, of Saco; daughter, Nita Libby of Wyoming; son, Gary (Cheryl) Marston of Cumberland; sister, Esther Marston of South Portland; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A visiting hour will be held from 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017, at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home 365 Main St, Saco, followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. with Pastor Bob White of the Grace Bible Baptist Church officiating.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
