The regular season is completed and the Maine high school basketball postseason is set to begin, with teams beginning preliminary round action.

Plus, Brunswick heads to Auburn today at 4:10 p.m. to take on top-seeded St. Dominic’s Academy in a girls ice hockey North semifinal at Norway Savings Bank Arena.

And, state indoor track, wrestling and swimming are on tap over the next week.

Play kicks off tonight as Morse (5-13), the No. 9 seed in Class A South girls, heads to Turner to take on eighth-seeded Leavitt (7-11) at 6 p.m.

The Shipbuilders and Hornets met twice during the season, with the visitor coming out on top both times. Leavitt defeated Morse in early December, 36-29, and the Shipbuilders returned the favor Dec. 30 with a defensive-minded 26-24 victory.

Tonight’s winner tackles top-seeded Greely (17-1) on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Portland Expo in the quarterfinals.

On Wednesday, the Lisbon girls, seeded ninth in Class B South after a 9-9 regular season, visits No. 8 Freeport, which sports an 11-7 record. Tip is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The teams didn’t meet during the season, with Wednesday’s winner facing No. 1 Gray-New Gloucester (17-1) on Feb. 21 at the Portland Expo (2:30 p.m.).

In boys play on Wednesday, Class C South No. 9 seed Wiscasset (9-9) hits the road to face No. 8 Searsport (10-8) at 6 p.m.

Again, these teams failed to meet during the season, with the winner heading to the Augusta Civic Center against undefeated and No. 1 seeded Winthrop (18-0) on Monday at 9:30 p.m.

Also in Class D South, No. 9 Pine Tree Academy (7-11) of Freeport heads to No. 8 Islesboro on Wednesday. The winner meets up with top-seeded Greenville in Augusta on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Quarterfinals

The quarterfinals begin on Friday, but area teams face their first tests on Saturday.

At the Portland Expo, the Lisbon boys (9-9), seeded seventh, take on second-seeded Spruce Mountain (15-3) at 2:30 p.m.

Later that night, the No. 6 Brunswick boys, with an 11- 7 mark, meets up with No. 3 Cape Elizabeth (11-7) at 7 p.m.

After a Sunday break, Monday sees plenty of action.

At Augusta, the Richmond boys (16-1), seeded second, meet the prelim winner of No. 7 Waynflete and No. 10 Old Orchard Beach at 5:30 p.m.

Down south at the Portland Expo, the Brunswick girls, the No. 2 seed in Class A South with a 15-3 record, face No. 7 Kennebunk (8-10) at 2:30 p.m. The Dragons and Rams met during the season, with Brunswick coming away with a 51-47 win in overtime.

On Feb. 21, the Pine Tree Academy girls, seeded fourth with a 13-5 mark, face No. 5 Forest Hills (13-5) at 8:30 a.m. in a Class D South matchup.

Later that day, Richmond, the No. 1 seed in Class C South, faces the survivor of the Gould Academy- Winthrop girls prelim matchup at 1 p.m. in Augusta.

Swimming

State championship action begins on Saturday, with the Morse boys heading up to the University of Maine in Orono for Class B competition.

The KVAC champs will face several tough competitors, including Cape Elizabeth, Old Town and Mt. Desert Island.

The Class B girls championship takes place Monday in Orono. KVAC champ Morse will look for more success.

Both meets begin with diving at 10 a.m., with swimmers hitting the pool at 12:30 p.m.

Bowdoin College is the site for the State Class A Championships, with the boys in action on Monday and the girls in the pool the following day.

Diving kicks things off at 8:30 a.m., with swimming underway at 11 a.m.

Brunswick, the KVAC boys and girls champs, along with Mt. Ararat will be in pool competition.

Indoor track

The State Class B Championships are set for Saturday at Lewiston’s Bates College.

Freeport and Morse will be competing, with the meet set for a noon start.

On Monday at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham, Brunswick and Mt. Ararat tracksters will compete, with meet action set for a noon start.

Wrestling

This past Saturday, Mt. Ararat/Brunswick grapplers won the Class A North Regional at Nokomis High School.

This upcoming Saturday, the Eagles/Dragons contingent returns to the mat at Camden Hills High School, with the State Class A Championship on the line.

Morse will also be vying for supremacy at Camden, with the meet scheduled for a 9:30 a.m. start.

Lisbon wrestlers head to Bucksport on Saturday for the State Class B Championships at 9:30 a.m.

The Greyhounds finished third in the Class B South Regional at Wells.

Wiscasset’s Sam Strozier is also expected to compete at Bucksport.
