Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bath/Brunswick is holding their signature fundraising event — Bowl For Kids’ Sake Saturday, April 1 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Yankee Lanes, Brunswick and Friday, March 31 at The Bowling Bowl.

BBBS of Bath/Brunswick is seeking volunteer support from community members, business professionals, and high school students to recruit teams of four and raise pledge donations in the community. At Bowl For Kids’ Sake, teams will enjoy two strings of bowling, DJ music (provided by 8th Street Entertainment), special guest MC’s, 50/50 ticket sales and numerous door prizes and giveaways. This year’s theme is Back to the ’80s and teams are invited to dress up. To register your team online go to www.firstgiving.com/bbbsbathbrunswick.

Participating high school students will have a special Bowl For Kids’ Sake event planned just for them on Friday, March 31 from 7–9 p.m. at Yankee Lanes. Students from Brunswick High School, Mt. Ararat, Morse and Hyde School are recruiting teams.

By participating in BFKS, community members are part of a nation-wide strategy for fundraising in support of youth mentoring programs. The combined national events involve over half a million people. The Bath/Brunswick area event involves about 600 bowlers and all donations-raised remain in the local community. Last year, Bowl For Kids’ Sake supporters from General Dynamics, Bath Iron Works with 28 teams attended. BIW has raised more than $50,000 in donations and matching gifts during the last five years.

“Our gross fundraising goal for this year’s three BFKS events is $100,000,” said BBBS of Bath/Brunswick Executive Director. Lindsay MacDonald.

“What makes this event successful is the number of people and businesses involved and how well they commit to their personal fundraising. It is such a fun filled event that anyone can participate in; BFKS is a huge thank you party for community members that fundraise on our behalf,”

The average cost to support one Big and Little match through the year is $1,000. As a non-profit organization that does not receive state or federal funding, BBBS of Bath/Brunswick relies on its community supporters to continue vital programming. Bowl For Kids’ Sake income supports

Community-Based Mentoring and 18 School and Site-Based Programs that are offered in Bath, Brunswick, Harpswell and the communities of Sagadahoc County. The organization supported a total of 290 matches in 2016. There are currently 13 children waiting for the right match with an adult Big in the Community Based Program.
