A fifth grader in Washington is requesting items from Maine for a school project.
Alexis, who asked not to use her last name, is a student at Cascade Christian Puyallup Elementary School, in Puyallup, Washington.
The 10-year-old sent an email to the Journal Tribune, requesting readers of the paper send her items from Maine for her project.
Alexis stated she would like information and items on the state so she could learn more about the state and connect with Maine’s citizens.
“I would love to receive any information, maybe something that the citizens love to have, maybe a special coin, mini toy, or anything else that they want to be creative with or anything the state of Maine would love to share with me I would appreciate it a lot,” she wrote.
Her teacher, Eleanor Nichols, said contacting newspaper readers in various cities for information they’d like to share about their state is the first step in the project. The second step for students is to research and write a detailed report about their assigned state.
“The last step and most fun for them, is to design and construct a float that represents the special characteristics of their state,” said Nichols. “They will display these items in our gym and invite the whole school to visit.”
Alexis said although she didn’t get to choose which state she was going to study, since learning about Maine, she is happy she was assigned the state.
In talking to friends and family who have traveled to Maine they’ve told her they “never wanted to leave,” she said.
“I would love to go because my family and I love lobster and we think from what we have learned it would be the perfect dream vacation with the wonderful people that care for their state, lighthouses, seafood, and much, much, more to adventure upon,” she said.
Alexis thanks in advance everyone who takes interest in her project and sends her information or a small item and said she may send the Journal Tribune a picture of her finished school project.
Items for the project should be sent to: Alexis c/o Cascade Christian Puyallup Elementary School, 601 9th Ave. SE, Puyallup, WA 98372.
