BATH
The cause of a Bath fire that resulted in two people being hospitalized last week was accidental.
Fire Chief Lawrence Renaud said the fire was caused when a lamp fell over onto some bedding. Firefighters quickly extinguished down the fire, containing it to the bedroom.
Bath Fire Department was called to 25F Windjammer way just before 8 a.m. Friday.
There were three people at the home at the time of the fire.
Renaud said two were transported to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick with smoke inhalation.
The fire occurred in a unit located within a four-unit attached complex. The other units were only temporarily affected when power was cut to the building for about 45 minutes, Renaud said.
“The crews did a great job and no firefighters were injured,” Renaud said.
While at Windjammer Way, crews received a report of a chimney fire at 57 North St. It was quickly determined that the second call was actually a furnace malfunction.
Simultaneous calls can cause the department to tap its resources sometimes, Renaud said. Fortunately the city is small geographically, and firefighters can respond quickly.
“We do pretty well to pool our resources and make all our calls,” Renaud said.
