LISBON
The town of Lisbon may want to give itself an online makeover.
The town’s website is obsolete and difficult to navigate, Town Manager Diane Barnes noted in a memo in advance of tonight’s town council meeting.
“The goal is to develop a branding concept for the town of Lisbon that can be used in all marketing materials including our website, printed materials, signage and other media,” Barnes writes. “Because there has been so much work done with our Route 196 Master Plan and Downtown Plan, this would be a great opportunity to market Lisbon as a place to live, recreate and have a business.”
To that end, the Economic and Community Development Department wants to submit a request for proposals for branding and website redesign.
The council also wants to authorize staff to solicit bids for the Community Development Block Grant, Downtown Revitalization Street Project.
Since November 2014, the Route 196 Master Plan Committee — now the Lisbon Development Committee — has been working with Oliver Associates on the engineering and design services in preparation for the “Falls Streetscape Project.”
The town was awarded a $320,000 CDBG Downtown Revitalization Grant for the project in the fall of 2006. The town must match 25 percent of the grant to the tune of $80,000, which the town has secured — $50,000 currently in the economic community development budget, paving of Davis Street sidewalk and in-kind service from town staff.
Also tonight, the council is slated to vote on the Lisbon Community Garden Ad-hoc Committee. The Lisbon Community Garden is focused on education and food production. It will serve as an educational, production and gathering place that will nurture community as well as crops.
Councilors will also consider the first reading of a fee schedule amendment, allowing the police department to apply to the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety for a speed enforcement and equipment grant, and spend $4,593 from the forfeited assets account to offset the purchase of a new patrol cruiser.
Several committee reports are scheduled as well as appointments to the Recreation Committee and Lisbon Development Committee.
The meeting had been originally scheduled for Tuesday, but was postponed until tonight at 7 p.m. due to inclement weather.
Council Chairman Allen Ward said the dispatch consolidation discussion scheduled for Tuesday will be held Feb. 21, because at least one councilor can’t make tonight’s meeting.
